After 18 years of hosting the Jimicup at River Run we are moving down the road. Pleased be advised that we will be gathering at the kayak ranch. The following is from Scott Docherty:

As has been mentioned before, there has been a slight change in venue (don’t worry, it’s still being held at Smoothie). Due to a change in ownership at River Run, and subsequent astronomical increase in camping and takeout fees, this year we will be camping elsewhere. John Mason has graciously offered to host us on his property, just a short drive from the put-in on Grant’s Settlement Road. Here are the details for getting to his place, and rates more reasonable than River Run has ever been:

Address: 2495 Grant’s Settlement Road (same road RR and the put-in are on). Past River Run on the way to the put-in, look for kayaks and Cadillac Ranch on the left, with a red kayak mailbox on the right. The drive is on the left hand side of the road – can’t miss it.

Cost: $10.00/person for the weekend. This fee can be considered a donation to the Whitewater Ontario Advocacy Access fund, which is in place to ensure that access to/from the River continues to be publicly available to all. If folks arriving early or staying late wish to stay at John’s place, he’s asking for a donation of $10.00 per night, also to go toward the access fund.

I would like to thank John for his generous offer, and point out that the money is going to a worthy cause indeed. Recent changes in the corporate world of rafting on the Ottawa are threatening to leave recreational paddlers high & dry, with no public takeout from the river. This is an unacceptable situation, and I commend John and others for stepping up and fighting for continued access for all. My hat’s off to you, Mr. Mason!

Anyway, looking forward to seeing any and all who are coming out to this 19th edition of what has become a great summer tradition on the Ottawa. See you soon!

    Cheers, Scott
