2016 Retail Manager – Lake Opeongo

Introduction:

Algonquin Outfitters’ Lake Opeongo location is part of an energetic organization with a long tradition of providing excellent products and services to canoe trippers in the Algonquin Park area. We place the highest priority on excellent customer service.

Algonquin Outfitters is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated, creative person to fulfill the role of Retail Manager. This team member will work closely with our store managers, receiving department and floor staff.

Job description:

This employee supervises and manages operations in the “retail store,” with the primary goal of driving  performance by effectively managing retail inventory and labour requirements. The position has a wide range of responsibilities, including, but not limited to:

  • Ability to perform all retail duties expected of junior staff members
  • Be the “go to” retail sales person: model outstanding customer service, able to effectively sell and merchandise products in all departments. Ensure that high standards are maintained for cleanliness and merchandising in retail area.
  • Oversee all till/front counter operations, including POS training. Monitor till counts, coin floats, till opening & closing. Manage flow of paperwork at front counter, including communications book, rental invoices, reservations & group billing.
  • Oversee all POS/Credit Card procedures and updates: receiving, inventory adjustments & transfers, etc.
  • Provide administrative support to all aspects of other operations: monitor levels & order office supplies, POS supplies, beverages, snacks & ice cream etc.
  • Track and manage inventory/stock levels for all departments, coordinate transfers to other locations.
  • Monitor department sales and work with buyers to re-stock/transfer and/or create sale items as required.
  • Regularly attend team meetings to provide input into buying and marketing discussions. Assist buyers by being “the voice of Lake Opeongo,” providing specific feedback on product requirements for this location.
  • Work with other managers and buyers to plan & implement PK sessions, POP material, sales and special events.
  • Assist Operations Manager in tracking staff hours, managing updates, submitting payroll, coordinating staff schedules.
  • Assist with hiring seasonal staff, participate in job fairs, interviews, etc. Conduct intake interviews and performance evaluations with seasonal retail staff following AO guidelines.
  • Answer the phone as needed, provide information about AO products & services, take reservations if needed, direct calls and take messages in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Maintain an organized work schedule and be prepared to work in other locations during shoulder season.
  • Ensure that health and safety standards are maintained in the workplace and report any issues or deficiencies to Health and Safety representative.

Reports to:

  • Manager on day-to-day basis at Lake Opeongo and Financial Controller at Huntsville admin office for financial/inventory matters.

Hiring notes:

The position requires an individual who is personable, organized, self-motivated and able to work with a minimum of direct supervision. Experience in retail sales management, computer data entry and an interest in the outdoors is required.

Season:    Full time with the potential to develop into permanent salaried full time

Summer 2016 AO Boatwerks Whitewater Instructors

Whitewater Instructor

The AO Boatwerks Paddling School on the Gull River in Minden, Ontario is seeking an experienced and certified whitewater & flatwater instructors for groups and individuals this summer.  The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of whitewater paddling / instructing experience, teaching and training individuals, groups and instructors.  In depth experience and knowledge of the Gull River is also an asset.  Some retail work will be involved at the Minden AO Boatwerks store.

The Minden Wild Water Preserve (Gull River), an engineered course on the Gull River dating back to 1972, is considered one of the best whitewater runs in the world.  In 2015 it was home to the Pan Am games and hosted the canoe/kayak slalom competition for athletes from all over America.

 

The right candidate will possess:

  • 3+ years experience instructing whitewater kayaking / rafting
  • Whitewater kayak and canoe instructor certificates
  • (SRT) Swiftwater Rescue Training Certified Instructor
  • Current First Aid & CPR
  • Whitewater instructing experience with groups and individuals
  • Ontario Drivers License

Located in the Heart of Algonquin Park, the Lake of Two Rivers Store & Restaurant is a popular shopping, grocery and food destination for campers and car traffic traveling along the highway 60 corridor. This store is located between Mew Lake Campground and Lake of Two Rivers Campground on highway # 60 in the heart of Algonquin Park. Seasonal accommodation is available.

Located on Oxtongue Lake in Dwight, Ontario, just minutes from the West gate of Algonquin Park. This is the original location where AO started over 50 years ago, and primarily serves to outfitting group canoe trips into Algonquin Park. We are the area’s largest outfitter, boasting a rental fleet of 400+ canoes/kayaks. We offer complete outfitting, rentals, as well as retail products for all your outdoor adventures.
