Haliburton Algonquin Outfitters Boatwerks

Assistant Manager 2018

Do you have a passion for outdoor adventure? Do you enjoy helping people? As a team leader you will assist our staff in providing exceptional service and advice to ensure our customers are fully equipped to enjoy our incredible environment. A minimum of two years of professional team management is required.  Computer skills, spreadsheet manipulation and reservation handing are mandatory. Time will be spent at multiple locations within the Haliburton region. Experience in canoe/kayak tripping, whitewater paddling, waterski/wakeboarding, retail sales, computer data entry and an interest in the outdoors are preferred skills.

Job Type: Permanent Full Time
Hourly Wage: Competitive wages based on experience and education

Responsibilities

  • Sales staff and rental staff team coordination
  • Exceptional customer service and assistance in their purchasing and rental decisions
  • Process sales, rentals and reservations through a computer-based point of sale system
  • Oversee rental deliveries and fleet distribution
  • Motivate staff to ensure stores and products are kept clean and organized.
  • Provide a positive role model for all staff.
  • Work with regional management to implement and design new protocols and services

Job Requirements

  • 2 years of professional team management
  • Retail sales and customer service experience
  • Experience with maintenance and input of a digital reservation system
  • Expertise in carrying and securing kayaks, canoes and paddleboards to vehicles
  • Strong communication skills when engaged with staff and customers
  • Knowledge and experience in paddling, cycling, other outdoor activities and equipment
  • Related post-secondary education is an asset
  • Trade show experience is an asset
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts in a dynamic and fast paced environment
  • An outgoing and genuine attitude
  • Good physical fitness

 Whitewater Instructor

Lead Whitewater Program Instructor/Coordinator 2018

We are seeking a certified CKC river kayak team leader/instructor to manage our kayak instruction program and staff. Working with existing staff, you will develop kayak and sport yak curriculum and institute standard program guidelines and procedures. The ideal candidate will be a confident and positive team leader with 3-5 years of white water paddling/ instructing experience. We are looking for an organized, safety conscious individual who acts with a high level of professionalism. In depth experience and knowledge of the Minden White Water Preserve is also an asset. On the water working hours at the lead instructor rate of pay is dependent on the volume of lesson requests we receive. Program support work and retail work is available to supplement instructional hours at a lower rate of pay.

  • Develop curriculum and institute standard program guidelines and procedures
  • Manage and oversee white water kayak instructor team
  • Instruct students on white water kayak equipment, paddling safety and skills
  • Teach river reading skills
  • Lead sport yak river descents
  • Collaborate with other team members to provide group kayak lessons
  • Coordinate with reservation manager and retail staff to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction
  • Reprocess rental equipment and keep storage facility organized
  • Assess and report equipment and facility conditions
  • Coordinate safe river practices with other Gull River paddlers.

Job Type: Seasonal Full-Time (30-40 hrs/week, depending on the volume of lesson requests)
Hourly Wage: Competitive wages depending on experience and certification
Start Date: May 1st 2018

Requirements

  • CKC River Kayak Instructor Certification. Minimum level 2 Intermediate Kayak Instructor / CKC River Kayak Leader / Instructor 2
  • Minimum 3 seasons of white water kayak experience
  • Must have a track record of guiding / instructing students in moving water
  • Swift Water Rescue Technician III
  • Wilderness First Responder
  • White water canoe certifications or experience are an asset
  • Life guard Certification is an asset
  • A valid F Class driver’s license is an asset
  • Other guiding and instructor certifications are an asset

Whitewater Instructor

Gull River Whitewater Kayak Instructors 2018

We are seeking certified CKC river kayak instructors for groups and individuals this summer. The ideal candidate will be a confident and positive team player with 2 years of white water instructing experience. We are looking for an organized, safety conscious individual who acts with a high level of professionalism. In depth experience and knowledge of the Minden White Water Preserve is also an asset. On the water, working hours at the instructor rate of pay is dependent on the volume of lesson requests we receive. Program support work and retail work is available to supplement instructional hours at a different rate of pay.

The Minden Wild Water Preserve (Gull River), an engineered course on the Gull River dating back to 1972, is considered one of the best whitewater runs in the world.  In 2015 it was home to the Pan Am games and hosted the canoe/kayak slalom competition for athletes from all over America.
