Upper/Lower Black Map

Description:

Upper (Cooper to Queensboro): class 3/4, with two big 4’s that are easy to scout and portage. There are a couple of long narrow 3s that are not easy to scout, so boat scouting at that level is a good skill on this run.
Lower: (Queensboro to Hwy 7): class 2/3 with a 3 Km flatwater paddle to the first rapid. There is a large class 4 below Hwy 7, but most folks take out above it.

Flow Information:

Min: 8 cms
Ideal: 18 and above
Max: none; routinely run above 40.

Season:

Early April to mid-May. The Black usually opens about a week earlier than Beaver Creek, towards the beginning of April. The Black is more likely than Beaver creek to come up with heavy rain.
