There are a couple of reasons boat companies switched over from cross-link, even though it makes a more durable boat.
1. Molds don’t last as long when using Cross-link. This makes each boat more expensive, since the mold has to be replaced more often. I believe that cross-link boats have to be left in the mold longer to cool as well, which slows production down.
2. Cross-link is more toxic to work with. Many companies switched over to protect their employees – the fumes in the molding process are nastier than linear plastic.
Cross-link is tougher to repair, but can still be done. Cross-link vs Linear use to be a hot topic of discussion, especially when Riot switched over. They had based an advertising campaign on the fact that they would never switch. When they did, the shit hit the fan on most of the forums….entertaining.
