I was at Champlain today and the waves look really good. Didn’t paddle because I was by myself. Good foam piles on all the waves, though it’s a bit shallow. Level is at about 3.4 on the Britania guauge. Let me know about next weekend, maybe Saturday if the temperature is good.

School report card time, DOH! But next Saturday, I hope the weather will be right… From -5 Celsius up would be good for me, at least for an hour.

The water is cold. Its winter. What is it you’re expecting to hear?
Some ice lining the shores, but easy enough egress regardless. Still, the assessment of risk is yours to make, not mine.
The wave itself is pretty small, and not nearly as good as it can be, but the weather is nice so…
Evan – Remic is nice nice nice right now. Good and fast with a decent face.
[i:3hj0u97q]I took an Astro 58 out. Needless to say, Im never buying a boat with kick rocker again. Ever.[/i:3hj0u97q]February 27, 2007 at 1:11 pm #23919EvanParticipant

Enlighten some of us who maybe don’t know enough about boat design. (me) What is kick rocker? Why don’t you like kick rocker? Does the Astro 58 have kick rocker, or not?February 27, 2007 at 1:47 pm #23921joatParticipant

Scotty: Kick rocker – maybe there is a more technical term but Im refering to the angle and abruptness at which the "bow" meets the flat section of the hull (hope that makes sense).
Kick rocker makes a boat bouncy because you can plow it into the water, it pushes hard against the incoming water (instead of sliding over it) and then "kicks" back up and out.
Boats with a smoother rocker profile don’t dig into the incoming water as much and therefore tend to be faster but less bouncy. Dig? Some boats land in between the two (420 for example). There is nothing wrong with either, just my preference is for speed and smoothness, and not for "boing".
