Just FYI, Jeff let me try his new Zephyr demo/rental boat Yesterday. (Thanks again Jeff!). I put the first scratches to it.

Here are my impressions:

This is a great boat! Fast, dry, carves nicely, stable and forgiving.
It ferries very well on the on-as well as the offside, engageing the edge in the center fo the hull allows one to niocely control the angle, an the great hullspeed makes even tough offside ferries a breeze.
It’s very dry, once I got dialed in, I managed to run from the lake down to below the falls before I had to bail for the first time.
The great secondary stability saved my butt several times after missing my line. And the light weight is definitely a treat.
I think it fits a wide range of paddlers as far as skill levels is concerned, It’s friendly and forgiving enough for a beginner, yet has enough performance features to be interesting even for a more advanced paddler.

If you are looking for a new open boat, go out there and check it out!

TGG!

Some of the smaller women in our club have ordered their Zephyr’s "Cut down". This has made them even lighter and more manageable for the smaller paddler. They can’t say enough good things about this boat.

Note that gluing to the hull is not so straight forward. You need a special 2-part glue from 3-M if you plan on changing the outfitting.

I think the Zephyr should be on the list of boats for me to demo when I’m ready to try out life on the dark side…..ah……I mean as a single blader!!

On another note, we (OVKC’ers) will be at the Gull this weekend if you’re interested……..c’mon out and join us…..entertainment is always welcome!

Hey PrincessLeah,

Sorry, can’t make it to the Gull this weekend, I am off to the Ottawa!

The Zephyr should definitely be at the top of the list to demo when you are ready to try out life on THE BRIGHT SIDE  (why do double bladers always get this mixed up?? ).

Better be in Wavebitch mode on the Gull, level was 8.4 yesterday, the top section was fairly pushy, but tons of fun <img loading=” title=”Very Happy” /> at this level!

Oh did it ever! For ther 2nd run down the Ottawa on Saturday (which was probably not the brightest idea in the first place, as I was already Hungry and somewhat tired  ), I decided to take the Acrobat, my C1 squirtboat … Treading the needle was not a problem, the thing is over 11ftlong after all, but while trying to ferry over behind Phils to catch the eddy above corner wave, things started to go a bit out of ccontrol:
Crap, I am doing a big stern squirt and am loosing all my moomentum, WHY! Ok, noo problem, just catch the corner wave eddy then… Crap, another stern squirt. Well, forget that eddy, just catch that tongue down through horseshoe. S#*T, why did that wave have to flip, me, this is a MUST make roll, as I DO NOT want to go down over the ledges above left side Horseshoe upside down. Whoa, made it, now all there is to do is punch left side horseshoe and I am laughing. NOOO, not anopther stern squirt  ! Oh $%^$, now I am sidesurfing horseshoe… WHere’s my boat??? Well, I guess somewhere deep under that foampile. Well, just work your way over to that tongue over there. Well, my does not want to move there. Ok, lets keep sidesurfing and think of something else… Windowshade!! Where am I??? Still in the hole??? Flushing??? AIR would be nice… BAIL NOW!!!
Definitely by far my most interesting run down McCoys in a longf time. After that things went a bit better, at lest until Pushbutton , where I hit bottom HARD during an ender attempt and split the outside seam of the boat.
Oh, yes, I had another swim at Hair, getting dragged along the right side wall while trying to roll and being desperate for air does suck…

But I’ll be back, well, once I fixed that seam , that is!

Not really a matter of wearing a skirt there, as I did just fine in my higher volume c1’s … The issue was more haveing the entire stern and parts of the bow under water… this leads to weird things happening to the boat in boils and turbulent water, and they happen quickly  …too quickly for me, I guess…

Sorry for disappointing, but I haven’t gotten around to fix the busted seam yet, so there will unfortunately be no repeat performance this weekend…

Wow another brillant review/reviewer, like the boats been out on the rivers for at least two years and yet another repeat review … of nothing new.
Whats’ with all the want-to-be reviewers, just let the people boat and decide.
Like how hard can it be to paddle all the slight variations of a "open bath tub" anyways
