As we all know, Gull Fest. did not happen this year. We here at boatwerks have been tossing around the idea of throwing a fest. in late august. I am posting this poll to see how many people would actually be interested. It will consist of similar activities as the Gull Fest did, such as Clinics, Raffles, etc etc. But what i really need to know is, what do you guys expect from a river fest, how can we make a better one, throw me some ideas and we’ll talk business. Nothing is set in stone but we are taking some serious consideration in this. so lets see who would be down for some river fun.

Hmmmm it won’t let me vote!!
I would always be happy to support River/Kayak festivals in Canada, however, one of the things I have noticed is festivals running on consecutive weekends. Be sure that there isn’t something else going on that weekend (i.e. World Cup, Riverpalooza, Kipawawa, Team trials etc etc)
Also, look at the format of other festivals to give you some ideas. There are many festivals in the states that are very successful. Contact organizers and find out what makes their festivals a hit year after year.
Just my 2 cents

i am thinking of august 26th for the date, how does that sound to all of you it does overlap the festival on the upper gatineau but I would like to know how many gull paddlers would be making the trip up there because if it causes any problems i would also consider an end of summer fest on september 1st or 2nd.
what are all your thoughts on these dates??????

How about having the boatwerks ramp launch you into the river just above earls, like at the gauly fest, that would be cool…

now THAT sounds like fun.
but on a more serious note, have demos of all current and even some older boats, beer, food, free stuff, some tunes and you have yourself a shin dig.July 5, 2006 at 7:45 pm #18864
im defiantly gonna have music, beer is a necessity, We are thinking Raffles, for some big sh*$. The night will defiantly be aimed towards the legal aged folks. Whatever is left in our demo fleet will be there as well.

in my opinion having the ramp throw you right above earls would be super sketchy… interesting, but sketchy… have it somewhere else maybe (horsehoe lake)?
yeah basically make it a day long river party… and maybe have a rodeo of sorts at earls and the downriver race. also don’t forget to extend the party all night too!
it looks like no matter what you do you will be on the same weekend as some other festival somewhere else, so pick a date and stick with it (26th sounds good)July 5, 2006 at 7:57 pm #18866tyler_sadler11Participant
The gull’s a closer drive for me than any other rivers, so no matter which weekend its on i’ll be there for sure. Was great fun last year, keep it up this year!July 5, 2006 at 9:09 pm #18867BoydoParticipant
Aug 26th is no good, I am getting married that day , but otherwise I would be there for sure

Yeah! A downriver race starting above the dam and finishing below whitehorse would be SICK! I’d dig that sh*t! Good sweaty palms warmup for daydreaming about the Class V downriver races in PQ (just daydreaming, of course… That’s some deadly daydreaming… Requires a good warmup…). Rodeo in earls… Sounds like fun! Can we have a 28 to 28 y/o class so that I can maybe come in 3rd…
I think we should also have boatraces (like, with beer…)
If organizing an event involving running the dam isn’t cool, then you could set up the ramp to hit the first drop after the dam to start the race ” title=”Very Happy” />
Festival sounds good to me! (Even if you don’t use my brilliant ideas.)
PS. What’s the proper huzzah for that Geoff? Should I say ‘happy wedding’? Anyways… Congrats on that again! Hopefully we’ll see you on the Ottawa this weekend!July 5, 2006 at 11:05 pm #18869BoydoParticipant
Yeah Bobbie, I think I am Ottawa bound this weekend, you guys going to be camped at River Run? If so I’ll find ya.July 5, 2006 at 11:11 pm #18870BobbieParticipant"Boydo":11y005bj wrote:you guys going to be camped at River Run? If so I’ll find ya.[/quote:11y005bj]
Yup! See you there.
(Sorry everybody… Don’t want to thread-jack this very auspicious Gull-Fest post…)

The ramp in the lake and a ton of demo’s, the rest will take care of itself. I think the states seems to get more support from the manufactures for demo boats and even prototypes to try out…..that would be the key for me.
demo paddles and equip as well.
but hey break out the ramp and I think a lot of people would show up, you could even charge a couple of bucks a launch (or donation) to send to put towards a whitewater park a saving a river…..
the date is goodJuly 6, 2006 at 2:08 am #18872The Great GonzoParticipant
Hmm, I would love to attend, however on the week-end of Aug 26th I have already plans to attend the Ohiopyle over the Falls Festival in PA, and on the Labor Day weekend I’ll hit the Ottawa.
Why not hold the Gullfest on the Civic Holiday weekend in early August?
