Myself, Simon and Jamie are looking to run hogs back this Saturday!
This would be our first time and we were wondering if anyone who has done it before would be interested in showing us the line… just to make sure we are not about to do something really stupid…
Thanks!November 1, 2006 at 8:09 pm #21352mark.dParticipant

Hey Martin, depending on how much work i get done these next few days i might be up for that as well (now that i you know..can get my damn boat now haha) and Mark i tried to check out that video clip and its no longer working, anybody else know of any info on hogs back?November 2, 2006 at 6:25 am #21354Open GateParticipant
I’d love to be there with you guys but I dislocated my left shoulder 2 weeks ago running a bony drop…anyways, Hog’s back is much easier then that drop on Bonnie brook.
1st thing to watch out for, access…DO NOT climb over the black steel guard rail. Put in upstream from the dam(cross Hog’s back road with your boats) beyond the fencing.
Run furthest right gate(slide do not boof here, it’s concrete but base is smooth and round).
You’re now in an eddy, choose double drop straight ahead or main drop river left.
Main drop(22′ – class III to IV) there is a lip to line up on, it falls where the water is coming out of the under cut underneath (very safe, impossible to get recycled down there).
After the drop, depending on water level, running the canyon can be very mellow or solid class IV(VI in spring), so you might enjoy the scene or paddle real hard river right to avoid keeper hole.
Double drop(Class III+): Fun and more technical, you can choose to eddy between both or run them straight, watch out for 2nd part, there is a rock lip that spits water away from the fall, it’s better to hit with slight angle to avoid abrupt stop, won’t piton but might give you a jerk.
Take out river left and do it again.
