I’m looking for a good place to practice eddy turns and basic river running within a couple of hours of ottawa next weekend. A class 1-2 set of rapids with few to no rocks would be perfect. A camp site near by would be a bonus if its far away, so would a little surf wave.

    Any Ideas?

Palmer Rapids would be a great choice. Small, easy rapids, and a small wave at the bottom. Great place to learn. There is also a campground right on the river right shore.

    Have fun.

Palmer Rapids…. the best place to take beginer… and the camp site is right beside the river… and you can do “mini-riverruns” and walk back up and do it again….

Yuro and Spencer both got it right…you pretty much described Palmer Rapids in your question.

Go to [url:1z03mj20]http://maps.google.com/[/url:1z03mj20] and enter “Palmer Rapids Ontario”. If you want driving directions, just wait until the map has loaded and hit the “get directions” button at the top.

So would the Ottawa below Coli, and its closer.

It is just a friendlier place to learn (by friendly, I mean the river) It is a good width, clean eddy lines, beautiful spot. I attribute spending much of my early days to why I am still loving the sport.

Paddler Co-op is right there too. Maybe you could sign on for a private lesson if you wanted. http://www.paddlercoop.com I think?

    Enjoy!
