I was going to be near Ahmic Harbour and wondered if anyone knows of any play spots on the Magnetawan that would be accessible and runnable for anything up to class 3 this weekend. Any info would be appreciated.

I was paddling the Mag this weekend it was fun, huge. Your best bet for park and play up to class 3 is S-bend near poverty bay. Walk down to the bottom so you don’t go through peoples cottages. Right nowit is just a huge wave train with giant river wide surfing waves that we were unable to catch on the fly. Not for lack of trying. The road into ross rapids is still snow covered.
    Hope this helps

Is there still ice in the flats, or is it open?

I was only at paddled at knofli,s and s-bend and drove around some so I am not sure about the ice. But there is alot of water moving there now and the forecast this week is for rain and for the weekend its sun. So I would guess that you could make it down the river somehow

In Haliburton, true flatwater – like the lake below Knoephli falls – still has lots of ice. From what I remember, that is the only section of real flatwater on the run, but I am old. Haliburton Forest has bank-to-bank ice on their lakes. The Mag is even further north than that. There is supposed to be sun on Saturday, but only 2 degrees and -8 overnight on Saturday.
