The water from the Gull feeds the Trent/Severn waterway, so the lower they get, the more water comes down the Gull. There is also a Hydro dam creating the bottom lake, so you find the lake level fluctuates through the day as they draw more water for power. This changes the shape of the bottom wave and the current through the day, which can be fun.
Normally, July and August are guaranteed water on the Gull. Very rarely have I seen it below a good paddling level, and it most often is close to ideal. The hotter and drier the weather, the better the Gull runs during July and August.
