It is worth taking the elevator down to the boardwalk. You are able to walk beside the rapid and see most of it. It is an amazing difference between summer and fall or winter with the flows. At low flows the whirlpool reverses direction and runs clockwise. The rapids are still huge but it is not explosive crazy run that you see at high water.
If you ever stand beside that water at high flows it will give you an appreciation for what a full on run this was and how good these boaters are to tackle such a rapid.
Joel, you guys must have been so pumped after this. Congratulations.
Yeah, we got video. From shore and the air. I’ll post a couple clips to the Jackson and OKS sites soon. A full section will be dedicated to the niagara gorge in the film "[b:2zbptdun]Here & Now[/b:2zbptdun]", produced by myself and Nick Troutman, including such precious moments as sneaking our boats past the customs and immigrations office to put-in & hiding from authorities in a cave after the main rapids. There will be an article in Men’s Journal too sometime soon.
Next mission: Goin’ hav’ta brush up on me newfie talk aye bye’.
