    Hello

I am a fairly experienced whitewater kayaker, who’s primary paddling crew has dispersed in various directions. I have run the Ottawa river at various levels a few times a year for the last 6+ years.

I am looking to run the Ottawa river June 22 and 23. I will be out there either way, I may have to park-n-play. I’m hoping if I end up doing that the water level will be more approriate for that.

If anyone knows any other options for mid-week shuttling I’d love to hear it.

    Thanks!

    -Joe

You could try the River Run shuttle. Bit pricey, but should fit the bill. Even on the Friday, though, you’re likely to find folks playing hooky to paddle. Shouldn’t be a problem. Saturday the 23rd should be even easier.

    I will be up on the 22 – 24.

I should be up there around 11ish if you wanted to run the river and you don’t mind paddling with an open boater.

This means I could get two runs down if Jenny still wants to paddle with me after work.

I’m joining Colin on the Saturday and Sunday, and it would be nice not to be the only kayaker in the group.

Ryan is coming down from North Bay saturday morning. He will be meeting me at my dads in Petawawa.

So far it would be two open boats and you … Hopefully they will come.

I know the Barrie club has a trip that weekend but I don’t know there schedule yet but it really doesn’t matter as between the three of us we have the shuttle worked out for sat/sun.

Thanks for all the feedback. I wish I could play hooky on the Ottawa, but Toronto is a bit far away. I was planning to camp at River Run. But I thought their shuttle only ran on weekends.

My wife and son are visiting her sister in Ottawa for a few days, so I’m just going to drop them off run out to Beachburg until they have thier fill. I guess that’s a form of hooky <img loading=” title=”Smile” />

As for open vs kayak, I’ve never run in an open boat before – my only concern is my kayak is probably a bit slower. I’ve done two runs a day before, just did a lot less playing.

Don’t worry I will paddle slower with my single blade for you double bladers to catch up.

I am from Barrie area and Val is from Beaverton.

You should hook up with us in the spring and fall paddling up Orriilia way.

River Run’s shuttle only runs sat/sun.

Did you want to do a run on friday with me … between the two of us (assuming you have a vehicle) the shuttle is taken care of.

I will see if I can leave home earlier and make it up by 10am on the friday. I have to drive 370km one way.

Sure Cmnypny (Colin?) that it would be great to run the river with you and Val. I have a car (honda civic with roof rack). So we may need to be creative with loading, but it’s a fairly short trip. Worste case we have to shuttle cars around a little, or make two trips.

I’ll probably camp at River Run, and can start at whatever time you wish.

I’m driving in from Brampton on the 21st, but have to stop in Ottawa on the way, so Thursday will be a write off.

I’d love to join you in the spring, I have never been to Orrilia, truth be told, I had no idea there was interesting whitewater there. I used to go to Elora for something close. Minden is not bad, but 1 hour extra driving drops me off in Beachburg, so I only go there once in a while. Usually when my wife wants to join me, and isn’t up for the full Ottawa experience.

After she’s done paddling, she gets me to setup a hammock along the shore.
