For those of you want to know what Coureurs de Bois paddling club is all about, here is your first chance. We are running the Mississippi this Saturday, March 31. We meet at Westgate Mall, in Ottawa, for carpooling, at Carling and Merrivale at 9:30am, besides the Monkey Joe’s Restaurant and plan to put in the water at around 11am and be back in Ottawa by 5pm at the latest. Bill, an experienced paddler (20 plus years… ), is leading this first run of the season. He says it’s a class 2, with some easy class 3 sections, tops. The Mississippi is running at 40 M3/S, lower than usual (typical is around 100M3/S). A great run to shake off the cobwebs of winter. There may be some play spots, levels depending… The run itself is 3 hours tops. If you wish to join us, please bring cold weather gear, and maybe a lunch and a hot thermos of something… The temp is supposed to be 6 Celsius and mostly sunny.
my gf and i are interested in joining an ottawa club, is there anywhere we could get some info about the club. We’d definately be interested in some trips (after the lvl 6 cup) and definately would like to get to know more paddlers around o-town.
I live on the Mississippi R. in Galetta. The rapids in my section are ice free, however the flats are still full of ice. I think the upper sectioln you’re going to should be pretty clear by now- there’s next to no flatwater up there.
