The Wife and I are taking a week long ww class at MKC <img loading=” title=”Very Happy” /> . What is the weather up that way like this time of year? what type cloths for after paddles? shorts? jeans? etc…

What about water temps? do we need splash tops? wetsuits? dry suit? etc…

I’ve been paddling down these parts and south bend Indiana (east race waterway) with just spray deck/cool tect tshirt and using water temps to help keep cool (it’s been too hot for my shorty dry deck). And I haven’t need a drysuit since March.

Maybe not quite as toasty as the Ottawa, but very comfortable – no drysuit or wet suit required. Shorts and a rash top (sun protection) should be all that’s required along with the usual protective gear.

MKC’s a great place, you’ll have a wonderful time and learn a lot. The food’s pretty spectacular too!

to south Bend, maybe a degree or two Fahrenheit cooler on average at this time of year. winter is another story.
The end of July should be t shirt weather and warm water but you can’t count on mother nature.
It has been wetter than normal so far this summer, but you should really enjoy the instruction atmosphere and food at MKC.

MKC is in the bush so mosquitos may be your biggest bother if you are on the camping plan.

Every time I’ve been to south Bend, it’s around 90f with water in the low 70s f.

Thanks for the heads up on mosquitos. Wasn’t easy to convince wife this would be good summer vacation, so we’re staying in a lodge room. do you think we’ll need nets for hanging out outside at night? how bad are they? what about black flies? are they in season? are they the same as MI horse flies (big nasty biting suckers)?

Here in Michigan the mosquito is the second state bird prevailant during our 2nd season (road construction)

It can be 90 and sunny or 60 and rainy depending on mother naure
    how about this.
Similar weather, country, and bugs to the Upper peninsula.
It’s not til mid to late august that we start to get the odd cool night.
by the end of July the black Flies are pretty much gone and the worst of the skeeters will be too, but they are never gone in summer.
And you bet we have horse, deer, moose flies all summer.
    I wouldn’t worry about bugs.
Everyone has a differnt tolerance though.

    Enjoy

Blackflies are the size of gnats. This time of year you’ll get a rare bite. They are around but more annoying if anything.

Let’s not forget NoSeeUms! They were a few out last week when I was there.

I don’t like the bugs because I react quite abit to all the bites, but last week was quite comfortable

    Have fun!
