Just wondering if any riot owners out there have installed Synergy thigh braces after market? I got mine before Christmas for my astro58 and am going to put them in today. Unfortunately they didn’t come with instructions, screws or anything else haha. Any advice in putting them in? Theres only 2 screws so it should be a no brainer but I want to make sure there aren’t any tricks before I make my kayak into a death trap haha.
Yah I couldn’t find the original ones so ended up getting some screws from home hardware. The only problem I had was they gave me two ‘left’ braces. Luckily they are somewhat symmetrical and have both ends drilled out so I just had to switch the pivot to the other end and that was that.
Had it in the pool tonight and man… what a difference they make. My biggest complaint with the boat was my legs are skinny and I was shifting around too much in the knees. Now I am locked in there and feel so much more stable on edge. I can’t see why these aren’t standard on all of their boats!
After seeing how they looked in the boat I wasn’t worried at all. I was a lot more concerned with the hooks on my DR stinger. Those dug pretty hard into my bare skin when I rotated them into position… wearing shorts hurt like a mofo and they really seemed to restrict the mid/upper leg. Hard plastic torquing and bending on a single screw that was barely long enough to screw the hook into the base when i wasn’t even in the boat. Those ended up breaking and stripping the threads so I returned the boat to mec..
The synergy braces on the other hand seem to give a nice snug feeling but are really comfortable. Support without restriction.
I took my thighbraces out because I noticed that they were doing nothing except making it harder for me to get in an out of the boat. Although yours is the 58, maybe its a bit different.[/quote:24dy8ojz]
Talking about the blue pivoting ones not the black standard ones – I took those ones out too. I think the keyhole of the 54 and the 58 is the same? It’s a bit of a pain getting in the boat, but its nice not having my knees come flying out doing a back deck roll or something.
