my parents took me to a cool slide they found this summer on the York River near Maynooth so that i could run it, after the slide is a pretty sweet run, its a bit short but still really fun
i was just wondering if any other paddlers have ever been there or ran it
here is a little vid of it that i have put together
please let me know what you guys think

can you provide more details of where you put in, time of year, water level, is there a gauge for the river, etc.

if you are comming from bancroft to maynooth right before you get into maynooth make a left onto peterson rd and follow it for a bit to the high falls parking lot
to put in you have to hike about 2 km to the top of the fist slide
i ran it for the first time this weekend and dont know of anyone else that has ever run it — i have no idea if there is any gage

Is that on the Papineau River/ Creek?November 14, 2006 at 1:08 pm #21662
no its on the York riverNovember 14, 2006 at 5:28 pm #21663
I liked the helmet cam with wide angle in the top corner segment. Very cool.
Looks like you got a new creeker, too.
I’d be floored if nobody else has run that… It’s so damn close to Haliburton, Minden, Barry’s Bay… Smack-dab in the middle of kayak central…..
You’ve probably just exposed somebody’s ‘hidden gem’. That’s awesome!
What happened to New Zealand?

Good idea ” title=”Very Happy” />
I’ve got to be in Toronto this Saturday, but I could maybe do a quick trip down to the weir on Sunday if you’re up for it? It’d be 2hrs drive from Pickering (it’s probably not worth the drive unless you’ve got another reason to be down there… I’d be visiting my parents on the way back…). Here’s a photo:
(The photo makes it look a little better than it really is… The foampile cycles in and out, so it’s a one-move wonder before you get flushed… The photo was taken during the 3-4 seconds when the foampile was in… It washes out for 2-3 seconds….. It is big, though…)
Otherwise the next weekend, or anytime in December, I’m game! Parkhill and the Gorge should come up in December… If levels are good I might be up for some runs in the Algonquin/Haliburton/Bancroft/Minden area on a weekend, but I’m mostly looking forward to Parkhill (Parkhill can be paddled at night, so I sometimes go after work)….. Keep an eye on this board, and we’ll do it up!
Boydo will join us… He has no choice, I’m holding his copy of Rapid Mag with his creekboat review hostage.

DAMN I gotta hit that creek soon!
great vid.November 15, 2006 at 6:23 am #21670
Mike, here’s the directions to the weir:
Looks like they’ve changed the Wednesday/Thursday/Friday forecast to tons of rain… Might be an opportunity for the Irvine/Gorge on Sunday instead of the weir….. (Over 20cms Irvine, over 50cms Gorge, or over 120cms Parkhill are all worth the drive from Pickering).
Deems, if the rain doesn’t hit, then I’m game for some weir on Sunday, especially if you’ll take us to see the mystery wave. If the rain hits you should join in for some Irvine, Gorge, or maybe Parkhill!
Mike, you might be able to carpool from Toronto with Dimitri’s brother Yurii….. He’ll probably see this post, so we’ll just wait to hear from him The bum was too hung over to make it up to the Gull last weekend, so he’s on the hook to paddle this weekend. (His birthday… What kind of crappy excuse it that )

Congratulations on finding it.
I have never heard it mentioned before. You might just have a first descent on your hands there.
At least a first descent in a kayak. If you dig too deep you will find a grizzly old hunter who ran that with a bottle of jack daniels and his dog in the front of an aluminum canoe.November 15, 2006 at 5:55 pm #21672peterborough crewParticipant
Not a first Desent! Was there checking it out a couple of years ago and other paddlers were getting off river. I assume they ran it!
