Anyone have a visual on the ice conditions of the Black, I’m guessing it’s still frozen solid. Also don’t forget about the Head River, a fun creeky spring run with a coffee shop halfway through the run. Gary where are you located?, I’m 25 minutes from the Black so let me know if you want to meet up sometime.
hey Val, ya I’d be interested in going once it starts running. I’m on 48 closer to markham, about an hour away. Never run it before, but I had a look at it from the bridge a couple of times last summer when I was passing by. But wasn’t much going at that time. I’m guessing it compares more to a “middle Mad” when its up.
Where is the put-in and take-out?
The put in is on MacKenzie Rd off Hwy 45, just a couple Km East of Tim Who’s. The take out is on Lake Dalrymple Rd, a couple of Km West of Tim Who’s. Half way down the river it loops up to the highway and you can park your boat and get a coffee and fruit tart… truly wonderful. ” title=”Cool” />
What other river would you compare it to.
To me it feels like a more “creeky” version of the Black – nothing very difficult, just narrower and slightly bigger drops.
Any idea what the flow volume is when it’s at it’s best?
It is best when the Black is washed out. My visual gauge is the rocks at the Hwy 169 bridge put in for the Black. If the rocks are under water then time for the Head.
