With the unseasonably warm winter we’re having, what are the water temps like right now, still like late Fall temps? specifically at the Gull, or perhaps Washago?

    Hi Val,

You question peaked my curiousity so I’ve done a bit of research. Here’s a site from the Great Lakes Environment Research Labratory National Weather Service (Holy long name).

It says lake Ontario is sitting a whopping 50 degrees. I imagine the rivers would be warmer than that eh?

With global warming we maybe able to paddle all year round soon.

    Happy warmer paddling.

Guess it’s more like 43 degrees. Sorry I’m terrible at math.

Actually, the rivers are COLDER than Lake Ontario. Warmer than they’d normally be, but the water temp in most rivers is dropping quite fast. The Gull, because its watershed is very close to the river, may be 5C or something close to that.

Lake Ontario is a HUGE body of water, very deep, and never freezes. You can’t make comparisons to that with a tiny river like the black.
