Pretty slim pickings out there, although there are things to run and at least one set of releases to take advantage of.
Ottawa: awesome level at McCoys
Lower Mad: mellow, but uncrowded
Moose: releases both Sat and Sun

Late post; most people have already made plans and are the road 😳May 28, 2007 at 9:42 pm #27140HipnaziParticipant
So 2forthemoney are you complaining that this free service with no obligations from you is sub standard.May 30, 2007 at 3:31 pm #271412fortheMoneyParticipant
Not so much you personally but the system as a whole; One thing USA just has a way better grip on both in terms of water reading at any given time and releases for paddlers… We are not even closeMay 30, 2007 at 3:58 pm #271421-BladeParticipant"2fortheMoney":oyxnnzsp wrote:… the system as a whole; One thing USA just has a way better grip on both in terms of water reading at any given time and releases for paddlers… We are not even close[/quote:oyxnnzsp]
So what are [b:oyxnnzsp]you[/b:oyxnnzsp] doing about it? An organization like American Whitewater takes a lot of volunteer effort. We can’t even scare up enough people to help for a weekend at the Gull.May 30, 2007 at 4:06 pm #27143cmnypnyParticipant"2fortheMoney":223f974w wrote:Not so much you personally but the system as a whole; One thing USA just has a way better grip on both in terms of water reading at any given time and releases for paddlers… We are not even close[/quote:223f974w]
I wasn’t going to respond to this but enough is enough.
Thom and gang are doing a fine job! They do this because they like to help out not because they have to.
Remember it is the government that has the online gauges here and considering the government is all BS and they don’t give a rats ass about anything … don’t expect things to get any better in terms of more access to instant water levels.
If you don’t like the screwed up Canadian system here then move to the USA.May 30, 2007 at 6:16 pm #27144evil_twinParticipant

I am in software, and I’d be totally willing to devote my time to consolidating water levels data in to one page that automatically updates from the government gauges (not that I’m trying to make Thom obsolete, but just save him some time). Its actually something I’ve been thinking about for some time now.
If there are some ideas on how people might want to see this work, I’d love to hear them.May 30, 2007 at 7:28 pm #27146keezParticipant
Don’t know FA about computers, but thanks for stepping up to help out with the water levels page.

this will be aweosme!..
i think you should almost try and coordinate it with the webpage http://www.canadianwhitewater.ca. this would not only list and give directions to paddling places it would give the current reading of the river, what level its good at and other such things like tha. almost like mixing the "whats running" page with that site. that would make my life compleat!!May 30, 2007 at 7:52 pm #27148JamesGolickParticipant
That’s a super cool site! I started working on something exactly like this for ski hills, back when I was living out west.
I could definitely create something like that… The only wildcard is that I’m not 100% sure of how I’m going to extract water levels from those gov’t gauges. Anyway, its something I’ll have to play with a little bit.
There will be some costs associated, for which I’ll probably either ask for donations, or sell some advertising space on the site, once a few people start visiting it.
I have some really cool ideas for this too… Email/SMS notifications for when your favourite playspot comes up… Wouldn’t that be fun?May 30, 2007 at 8:15 pm #27149
that aounds amazing….if its a good enough site you could definatly be getting some advertising money out of it!! that would be ideal.
sounds liek your the right guy for the job so all the power to ya!May 30, 2007 at 10:03 pm #27150Open GateParticipant
That’s exactly what the guys at Myosis did http://www.myosis.ca
On some rivers the interprete the levels from data of a near by station, on other rivers they have a daily reading that’s automatically updated on the web site.
Ratings / grading of the rivers from those readings are from personnal knowledge of the rivers…lots of data to put together here…
You should contact them, nice people and maybe you could link to each other :” title=”Question” />

Hey James, check out http://www.arlns.com/
It’s a site put up by a boater in the states that you can set up your favourite levels and it will notify you when the river is at that level.
Pretty cool stuff.
