Thinking about taking the WFR course later this summer or in the fall, but I noticed that it is 80-hours over 8 days.
Does anyone know if this course if offered over weekends? I just can’t get 8 days off work to take the course <img loading=” title=”Sad” />

Also, I was thinking about a beginner Kayak Instructor Course. Any recommendations? Which organizations have you had the best experience with?

    Thanks a lot!

The WFR is a great coursre. If you can get at least 6 to 8 other people, you can set it up on weekends at your leisure.

I’ve heard Great things about Liquid Skills!!! and Paddlers Co-op out in Palmers is a solid pick. Other wise there is the Standard MKC. But they’ve always been alot of fun!! Contact Kevin (Giff) at MKC for more info on courses and WFR..

    Jenny,
Esprit offers a Wilderness First Aid course which is a weekend thing if that is what you are looking for. It’s not as detailed as the First Responder but is definitely useful:

Whitewater Ontario runs instructor courses and they are the ones that allow other organizations to certify their instructors (as far as I know). Carole Westwood is the person to talk to. Here is a link:

Liquid Skills also offers instructor certification.

Jenny, I took the Wilderness Medical WFA course over two weekends and it was great, although by each Sunday night I felt like my brain was going to explode. There is an upgrade course you can take afterwards to certify in the higher level First Responder. That way you can split the 8 days over a longer period. You can take the upgrade course any time over the three year period your WFA cert is valid, I believe.
